Boz Scaggs: Come On Home Contrasting quite strongly with the Southern Journey, yet tremendously striking is Boz Scaggs new one Come On Home. Boz does for himself what Don Was did for Bonnie Raitt, took
himself back to the roots of his music. From the opening licks of "It All Went Down the Drain" he has created an R&B drenched sound. Fred Tackett is playing guitar all over this disc, but the shared bass duties
of Freddie Washington and James "Hutch" Hutchinson drive the music to a funky and danceable end and when you add the horns, you're justing rocking like the good old days. Boz does a few of his crooner numbers for
those listeners who fondly remember his stuff from the seventies, but most of all this is a good R&B and blues album from another one of those aging rock stars. But I meangood
- this is his best material since he left the Steve Miller Band. Maybe better. My guess is that his live performances while he's out touring to support this album are going to be dynamite. Back to theBlue Suit Home Page |
